The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients will arrive for surgery at their scheduled time and be allowed to return home once the primary effects of anesthesia have worn off. Patients are given detailed recovery instructions to follow to ensure a healthy recovery period.

Rhinoplasty Incisions

Patients generally have two distinct options for rhinoplasty procedures:

• Open Rhinoplasty: During an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made along the columella–that piece of tissue between the nostrils. Once the incision is made, the overlying tissue is manipulated to give greater access to the interior workings of the nose. During an open rhinoplasty, Dr. Bosbous has a great deal of latitude and flexibility in terms of making changes to the overall shape, structure, and function of the nose.
• Closed Rhinoplasty: During a closer rhinoplasty, a small incision is made within the nostril. All of the work performed on the nose is then performed through this small incision. Significant changes can still be made with a closed rhinoplasty, and the relatively small incisions can often promote a faster recovery period.

Generally speaking, an open rhinoplasty is more appropriate when the patient wants significant changes, and a closed rhinoplasty is a better option when the patient wants only modest alterations to the nose.

Once the incisions are made (in either procedure) the skin and soft tissue will be elevated, allowing Dr. Bosbous to access and modify your nose’s deep structure. Rhinoplasty Recovery and Results

Dr. Bosbous will make every effort to minimize complications and provide a natural appearing result. Internal splints/tubes may be put in place along with an external splint on top of the nose to protect your nose during the early healing process. You may experience initial swelling and bruising, but this should subside over the course of a few weeks allowing you to resume social activity.
