Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Helping You See and Look Better in Milwaukee
Our eyes are the most prominent feature of our face. Eyes are said to be the window to our soul, and tired or sad appearing eyes can change the way that we view ourselves and the way that others perceive us. Sagging or heavy eyelids can also obstruct our vision, making it difficult to see. Both the upper and lower eyelids can be addressed by Dr. Bosbous to give the eyes a more youthful, rejuvenated look. While some choose to have blepharoplasty (eye rejuvenation surgery) on its own, many patients in the Milwaukee area like to combine it with other facial procedures (like a rhinoplasty, or face/neck lift) to give their appearance an overall refreshed look.
Dr. Bosbous takes an individualized approach to every procedure he performs. His attention to detail and care for his patients in the Milwaukee area is what sets him apart. By addressing your concerns and expectations during your blepharoplasty consultation, Dr. Bosbous will help to create a personalized surgical plan based on your needs and desires.
Who is a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?
blepharoplasty eyelid surgery procedures are a good fit for individuals who have a significant build up of tissue, lines, or wrinkles around the eyelids. Many individuals will seek out an eyelid lift because they want to look younger. Others want to undergo the procedure because excess tissue is interfering with their vision. Most patients are eager to address both the aesthetic and the functional drawbacks of too much skin around the eyes.
Most good candidates for blepharoplasty will:
- Present significant lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Many of these lines or wrinkles will be concentrated in a relatively small area.
- Present drooping areas of tissue around the eyes. In some cases, these drooping areas will be caused by fat that is out of position.
- Notice that drooping areas of excess tissue are interfering with your normal field of vision.
- Notice that they are less able to emote. In many instances, those with excess tissue around the eyelids will feel as though they look permanently fatigued or depressed, even when that doesn’t accurately reflect their mood.
- Be generally healthy enough for surgery.
- Want to achieve a permanent transformation.
- Maintain realistic expectations about what their blepharoplasty results will look like.

Benefits of Eyelid Lift/Blepharoplasty
There are many benefits to eyelid surgery. Dr. Bosbous and his eyelid procedure will help to address some of the following eye issues you may have. Blepharoplasty has the ability to:
- Help to correct blocked vision due to sagging eyelids.
- Tighten the skin around the eyes to create a more youthful look.
- Reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eye.
- Refresh the appearance of the eye.
- Eliminate extra fat deposits under the eye.
Because the actual signs of aging affect us all differently, Dr. Bosbous will evaluate your individual concerns in planning your eye lid surgery. Meeting your personal expectations is always an important factor in any procedure. When combining this procedure with other facial rejuvenation techniques, Dr. Bosbous will work closely with you to educate you on all of the steps of the procedures he will be doing before your actual surgery. It is extremely important that you feel comfortable with the surgical plan and have been informed about the risks, benefits and possible complications prior to undergoing any cosmetic procedure.
Your Eyelid/Blepharoplasty Procedure
Surgery differs from patient to patient because of individual need. Your eyelift surgery may involve work on both the upper and the lower eyelid, or simply one or the other. Upper eyelid surgery involves making an incision along the natural creases of the upper eyelid allowing access to underlying fat and muscle. Lower eyelid surgery involves an incision on the inner eyelid or right underneath the lash line. In all cases of blepharoplasty, Dr. Bosbous takes scarring into consideration and does his best to make sure your incisions are easily concealed.
Your eyelid surgery will be performed at an accredited hospital or surgical center, typically as an outpatient procedure. Done commonly under general anesthesia, in some cases your surgery may only require a localized anesthesia. These are all things Dr. Bosbous will discuss with you before your procedure.
Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty
Depending on the presentation of the tissue around your eyes, you may need an upper blepharoplasty, a lower blepharoplasty, or a combination of those. As the nomenclature implies, an upper blepharoplasty will focus on removing excess tissue and fat from around the upper eyelids, while a lower blepharoplasty will focus on the lower eyelids.
An upper eyelid lift will tend to focus on removing drooping or excess skin. A lower eyelid lift will focus instead on removing bags beneath the eyes (usually caused by out of position fat deposits). Both lower and upper blepharoplasty will remove unwanted excess skin. The incisions for lower blepharoplasty are usually made in the crease right below the eyelids. The incisions for upper eyelid lifts are often made around the folds of the upper eyelids.
This approach ensures that the incisions will be well hidden as they heal.

Results and Recovery
eA typical blepharoplasty procedure lasts about 1.5-3 hours and recovery time typically is also minimal–that’s certainly true for most of our Milwaukee blepharoplasty patients. Swelling and bruising may occur for 10-14 days, but can be concealed with makeup after the first week. Normal activity can be performed generally after a week as well, with more vigorous exercise and activity resumed within 2-3 weeks.
Every patient will be given detailed recovery instructions designed to maximize their comfort and protect their results.
Once the recovery process is complete, patients will notice significant changes around the eyes. Perhaps most noticeably, the patient’s field of vision could be drastically improved. Most patients don’t realize how much they couldn’t see until the excess drooping skin has been moved out of the way!
Patients will also look younger around the eyes. Lines and wrinkles will be significantly diminished and the skin will look smoother and more youthful. This makes a big impact in that way that people may perceive your face. After all, the eyes are a focal point and draw a significant amount of attention to themselves. In a way, this amplifies the effects of your eyelid lift.
If you want to know what your eyelid lift transformation could look like, contact Dr. Bosbous to make an appointment for a consultation. During your consultation, you’ll be able to discuss all aspects of your procedure and answer any and all questions you might have.
Dr. Bosbous will make every effort to minimize your chances for complications after eye blepharoplasty surgery .
