Getting Beach Ready with a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction

Get Beach Ready with a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction

Sometimes it feels like the transition from winter into spring and spring into summer takes forever. The snow melts and comes back again, the leaves turn green but the wind stays cold. But make no mistake, summer is going to be here before you know it—even in Milwaukee! And when summer finally gets here, it’s going to be time to hit the beach. We tend to get a lot of questions about the best way to get “beach ready.”

It’s worth noting that “beach ready” is going to mean different things to different people. We certainly encourage anyone who feels confident with and proud of their bodies to strut their stuff. But there are some people that just wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that, and those are the people we’re here to help. Because one great way to make sure you’re comfortable with your body is to use plastic surgery to ensure your body looks precisely the way you want it to look.

Common Sources of Unhappiness

Patients who come in wanting to be “beach ready” often have similar requests. They tend to be mostly concerned with the belly area. Either there is too much excess skin, areas of fat won’t go away, or there are stretch marks that are too obvious. There are surgical solutions to each of these problems. In fact, these three problems are most often addressed by two separate procedures (though they are sometimes performed concurrently): Liposuction and tummy tuck. While they are often conflated, each of these procedures is actually designed to do something different from the other. But they are so complimentary that people often think of them as one and the same. Tummy tuck and liposuction—especially when performed together—can get you ready for the beach.

What Does Liposuction Do?

One of the most popular plastic procedures of all time, liposuction has a well-earned reputation as a procedure that gets rid of fat. But modern liposuction goes well beyond simple fat reduction. Indeed, surgeons have so much control with this procedure that they are able to contour any of the areas of fat that they treat. This means that your liposuction results will look incredibly natural. This is a highly desired treatment for the mitigation of stubborn areas of fat—those areas which seem immune to diet and exercise (no matter how much of each you throw its way).

Liposuction requires several weeks for swelling to subside and results to become visible (though most patients return to work after only a week or two). If you want to ready for the beach this summer, contact us right away—the sooner we get started, the sooner you can be ready. Our patients often express that, once those stubborn areas of fat are gone, they feel more confident and more content. In other words, they love the way they look at the beach!

What Does Tummy Tuck Do?

Sometimes, it’s not the fat we want to get rid of, it’s the skin. This is especially true if you have been through something which has expanded and then retracted your skin. Examples of this are often events such as pregnancy or weight loss. In each case, the tissue around the belly area is expanded and then the volume decreases. As we age the skin loses its ability to “bounce” back from these types of events, which means that sometimes we are left with a bit of excess skin. That skin, unfortunately, cannot be targeted by diet or exercise; this skin can sometimes also make patients feel uncomfortable or self-conscious about the way they look.

The only way to effectively mitigate that excess skin is to remove it, and that’s precisely what a tummy tuck does. During a tummy tuck procedure, excess tissue is removed and the rest of your skin is contoured to your body. This means that you’ll have a nice, smooth belly. Incidentally, this is also a great way to get rid of stretch marks around the lower belly, as that is the location from which the excess tissue is most often removed. In this way, a tummy tuck can make your belly area look even smoother. Our patients rave about the youthful way they look after this procedure; they love the boost to confidence and self esteem, and they finally feel ready to show off at the beach again.

When Should You Schedule Your Surgery?

If you live in a northern state, such as Wisconsin, then to you “beach season” is a relatively short amount of time, and it’s likely you’ll want to be ready for it. This means that it’s best to give yourself a number of weeks to get ready before hitting the beach. This makes early spring a great time to start planning your tummy tuck or liposuction procedure. In fact, the more time you can give yourself, the better, so if you want to be ready for the beach this summer, don’t delay—contact Dr. Bosbous as soon as possible to get started on your transformation.

However, some patients prefer to have their procedure over the summer. Sometimes, scheduling is the most important component of timing a procedure (and summer is usually a pretty convenient time to spend some vacation days without raising a lot of eyebrows). Because these plastic surgery procedures are effectively permanent, you can count on still being bikini and beach ready by the time next summer rolls around.

The timing is up to you, of course—but the important thing is that if you need help feeling beach ready, Dr. Bosbous is an excellent surgeon from whom to get that help. Contact our office today to schedule a confidential consultation and start working towards your beach body.
